“Pray continually.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (CEB)

We at First Baptist Church know that prayer is essential to the life of the individual Christian and to the life of the church. Therefore, you will find that our prayer ministry is taken very seriously and is a priority here. We have a Prayer Coordinator that provides multiple corporate prayer opportunities throughout the year and encourages all of us in our private prayer discipline. Following are some ways you may participate in our prayer ministry and enhance your personal prayer life. Everyone is welcome to participate in any or all of these prayer forums.

The Prayer Chapel is accessible to you for meditation and prayer any time the church office is open or there are church activities in the building. Sunday morning from 9:15 AM to 9:45 AM is specifically set aside for individual quiet time and silent prayer in the Chapel. A scripture reference and comment placed at the entrance to the Chapel by the Prayer Coordinator is available to guide your personal devotion if desired.

The Intercessory Prayer Group meets from noon to 1:00 PM in the Prayer Chapel every Monday, except on holidays. A Prayer Coordinator or church staff member will lead the intercessory prayer session. Each attendee is provided a list of submitted prayer requests. The session leader will present a short devotion, lead a brief discussion of the scripture reference used and provide an explanation of each prayer concern on the list. Depending on time available and number of attendees, one person may lead the group in prayer for all the requests or each attendee may have an opportunity to pray for assigned concerns or specific concerns God lays on their heart from the list.

Neighborhood Prayer Meetings are scheduled monthly, except for July and December. These meetings are sponsored by Sunday School classes, mission groups or various other entities within the church. They are typically scheduled for approximately one hour on Sunday afternoons in the Prayer Chapel, private homes or other locations as determined by the sponsor. The sponsor also determines the leader, agenda and content of the meeting. These ten prayer meetings are among the most meaningful events in church life.

The Prayer Coordinator employs both email notification and telephonic prayer chains to provide immediate response to prayer requests received from members and non-members alike. The email notification is composed and sent out by the Administrative Assistant to all who have provided their emails for inclusion on the prayer requests notification distribution list. Upon receipt of the notification, each person on the distribution list is asked to offer immediate prayer for the expressed prayer request. Each telephone prayer chain/team is composed of 6-7 members who have agreed to receive and forward prayer requests by telephone. The Prayer Coordinator, upon receipt of a prayer request, calls the Prayer Team Leaders and informs them of the request. The Prayer Team Leaders activate their prayer chain by calling the first person in their chain, who in turn calls the next person in the chain and so on until everyone on the team is informed of the prayer request. The last person in each prayer chain then calls the Prayer Coordinator thereby closing the loop and confirming that everyone on each team received the prayer request. Each prayer team member is asked to pray and call the next person in the chain immediately upon receipt of the prayer request.

Lastly, Wednesday night gatherings in the Baptist church were traditionally prayer meetings. These gatherings now have a much broader scope where a multitude of programs are offered for different age groups and interests. However, here at First Baptist Church, after our weekly family night meal, there is still a dedicated time set aside for sharing requests and praying together before members join their respective programs.

We extend a personal invitation to you to participate in any or all parts of our prayer ministry.

You may submit your prayer requests here or by calling the church office at 910-483-0477.
